The simplest and fastest interactive mapping website designed by the Iowa DNR, the Basic Map and Air Photography Viewer is now the most popular application. It is designed for the user who is interested in quick navigation across the state of Iowa and quick viewing of statewide imagery, like the 1930s historic air photography, the 2002 color infrared (CIR) air photography, the 2004 natural color (NAIP) air photography, the LiDAR shaded relief imagery, and the 1:24,000 (USGS) topographic maps.
The Basic Map is also set up to perform simple actions , like locating a street address, bookmarking a map and storing it for future viewing, printing an aerial photograph of a property, and measuring distances and areas on the ground. Unlike the other mapping applications on the Iowa DNR Interactive Mapping website, the Basic Map and Air Photography Viewer is not project specific. This application is primarily for general public use, which is why it is the most visited of our interactive maps.
For help with some of the described functions, download and print the following one-page PDF help document. Open the Basic Map and Air Photography Viewer mapping application and follow along with your printed instructions.
