1. Make a layer active. Note: The hyperlink functionality is not available for all layers. If a layer does not have the hyperlink function, a warning message will appear when you choose the hyperlink tool after making a non-hyperlinked layer active.
2. In the Toolbar place your mouse over the link map icon and a small pop-up message will tell you the function of the tool.
3. Click the icon. A thin red line will appear around the icon .
4. Move your mouse cursor to the Interactive Map. The cursor will change from a white pointer arrow to a thin black cross.
5. With your left mouse button, click on a feature of the active layer that you want to hyperlink with. In the example below, the Lake layer was active. The lake feature labeled "Ingham Lake" seen in the picture below was clicked on with the mouse cursor using the Hyperlink tool.

After clicking on a feature
in the active layer, a window will pop up displaying hyperlinked information
about the feature that was clicked. Unlike the attribute table that pops
up using the Identify tool, the Hyperlink tool returns a customized interactive
web page where a lot more information exists about the hyperlinked feature,
and often other features in the active layer. In the example above, the following information about Ingham Lake was returned:

6. Close the pop-up hyperlink window when you are finished using the Hyperlink tool.
