Get Map Coordinates

Please note that the Get XY Map Coordinates tool is only available in the following mapping applications:

Basic Map
Water Monitoring Atlas
Watershed Atlas

1. Click the get coordinates icon located in the Toolbar near the top of the page.

2. An empty box will appear in the Information Bar, which is located directly below the Toolbar.

3. Move your mouse to the Interactive Map on the page. Map coordinates will be displayed dynamically in the Information Bar box as you change the placement of your mouse on the map. The map coordinates are easting (X) and northing (Y) values in the UTM NAD 1983 Zone 15N map projection (EPSG Code: 26915). To learn more about map projections, visit the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Map Projections website.

Note: This XY tool was created in response to increasing variability in client browser software. X and Y coordinate readouts were previously available in the Status Bar, which is located in the bottom frame of the page in a IDNR interactive map. Although current versions of Internet Explorer browser software are able to display this information effectively in the Status Bar, other browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Netscape Navigator, and the new version 7 of Internet Explorer, are not. This new XY tool will expand the functionality to other browsers so that the limitations of the Status Bar will no longer be an issue.
